Community and Economic Benefits

If approved and constructed, the HEGIC North Generation Station would support continued investment in Maricopa County by enabling the development and operation of the Data Center Project.  The benefits of these projects include:

  • More money for local schools and services: The data center campus adds to the local tax base, meaning more funding available for public schools, fire and police departments, and other community services.

  • Good-paying construction jobs: Building the generation station and data center campus will create a significant number of local construction jobs, providing steady employment as the project comes together.

  • Long-term skilled jobs: Once operational, the projects will employ full-time workers in skilled technical and maintenance roles.

  • Powering the technologies people depend on every day: Data centers are the invisible backbone behind online banking, hospital records, national security, and the tools small businesses rely on. This data center project helps ensure that infrastructure keeps running reliably and stays rooted in the U.S.

  • A boost to the regional economy: The data center and generation station together attract investment, support high-growth industries, and position the region as a hub for the digital economy — creating ripple effects across local businesses and services. According to a PwC study conducted in February 2025, each job in the data center industry is estimated to support more than six jobs elsewhere in the local economy (PwC, “Economic Contributions of Data Centers in the United States, 2017-2023,” February 2025).

The projects are being developed with a focus on responsible siting, coordination with local stakeholders, and long-term operational stewardship, consistent with established practices for large-scale infrastructure projects.
